Electrician business guide

How to Get Work as a Self-Employed Electrician

Electrical enquiries vary from a failed socket to a full rewire. Credible marketing starts with the work you are qualified to do and the inspection or certification a customer will receive.

Explain the certificates behind your work

State whether you offer fault finding, EICRs, new circuits or consumer-unit replacements. Show labelled, tidy installations without exposing private addresses or unsafe open equipment. Be clear about when a Minor Works Certificate or Electrical Installation Certificate is appropriate and how any notifiable work is handled.

Scope fault finding honestly

A tripping circuit can have multiple causes. Ask when it trips, what is connected and whether there is visible damage, then give a diagnostic rate rather than a fixed repair price before testing. For planned work, specify access, making good and whether fittings are supplied by you or the customer.

Work with the right local partners

Letting agents need periodic inspection appointments and clear reports; kitchen and bathroom installers need timely first and second fixes. Share your registration details if applicable and your availability for each service. Never imply that a scheme registration covers work outside its scope.

Build your electrician business

Create a TradrLink profile to show local customers the electrician services you actually provide.
