How to Get Work as a Self-Employed Gardener
Garden maintenance is seasonal and a first visit can be very different from a regular round. Make clear whether you offer plant care, lawn work, pruning or only general clearance.
Show the season and the task
Photograph a border across seasons rather than only on planting day. Label work such as shrub pruning, lawn renovation or mulching and explain the ongoing care required. Avoid presenting a garden designed by somebody else as your own design work.
Survey before offering a regular price
Ask about garden size, slope, water supply, waste removal and the difference between an initial clearance and maintenance visits. Agree who pays for plants and materials. For large trees or protected trees, refer specialist work to a suitably qualified tree surgeon instead of adding it to a general gardening quote.
Plan a realistic local round
Neighbours with similar garden sizes can be served on the same day; local landscapers may also refer ongoing care after an installation. Describe what a fortnightly or monthly visit includes and how weather affects scheduling, so clients know what they are buying between growing seasons.
